ITC Gem of the Week

I would like to award my first 'ITC Gem of the Week' to Signature Flowers by Emma Newman.  Emma's incredible creations inspire me every time I see them but this one in particular is one that I absolutely adore.  The colours are so vibrant and the bouquet itself is perfectly styled, but most importantly, every time I look it at I feel uplifted and it makes me smile and that is why it is my 'ITC Gem of the Week'...

Enchanting Romance created by Elly Mac Photos

Elly Mac Photos were a finalist in our recent 'Photograph of the Year' competition and I absolutely adored their entries - I asked to see more of the Wedding and it was no surprise that I loved all of them too, so much so, that I had to share them with you...

The Wedding
Danny and Dylan were married on October 1st 2011, the hottest day in London, in Putney right on the river Thames. “We didn’t want a big formal wedding and we didn’t want the sort of off-the-peg wedding we saw on offer in all the hotels,”  “We kept everything simple and relaxed and organised it all in about three or four months.  We were so happy with how laid back and informal it was on the day.  Everyone told us organising a wedding is the most stressful thing you can do, but if that’s the case they’re doing it wrong! We enjoyed every minute of it and had a fantastic day.  We knew that all we had to do was get all our friends and family together in one place and we’d have a brilliant time.”

“We hired our photographer because she was amazing and fun, my advice choose a photographer who is relaxed, professional and has the same vision as you do for your day,” Danny said. “Elly enhanced our day and really captured the essence of us and our wedding. The ideas she had for our wedding were exactly what she created.”

& here are the photos...

So who is Elly Mac Photos?
Based in Battersea London, Elly Mac Photos provides photographic services to clients across Europe and the United Kingdom.  My photography style can be described as photo journalistic with an artistic edge.  I am inspired by many things but at the moment my work is very much influenced by vintage romance, dreamy hues and is all about meshing elements of traditional photography and the spontaneity of photo journalism with a touch of the whimsical and the girly. Fun, fresh and humorous.  I  adore wedding imagery from the 1900s through to the 1960s before wedding photography was common place and before the rules of wedding photography became ingrained in our cultural mindset. Elly Mac Photos is ideal for those couples wanting different, sweet, funny and relaxed photography.  You will be pleased to know, that your photos will tell the whole story of your day in a combination of candid, group and detail shots as well as staged group and couple shots that will be a reflection of you as individuals as well as a couple. I can bring along photographic props and extra’s to make your wedding photos fun.

Win a Pre-Wedding Photo Shoot worth over £250!

This month we are delighted to be running a competition to enable you to win an Engagement Shoot.  So what exactly is an 'Engagement Shoot'?  Well it is an opportunity for you to meet up with a fab photographer and get some lovely photos of you and your future husband/wife.  It is also an opportunity for you to practise posing and to begin to feel comfortable in front of the camera in preparation for the 'big day'.

Afterwards you may like to incorporate the photos into your Engagement Party Invites - like the one below created by the very talented Knots & Kisses Wedding Stationey.  You could use your photos in your 'save the dates', your actual wedding inviations or as one of my friends did - create a beautiful display at your wedding.

Engagement Party Invite - Knots & Kisses Wedding Stationery

So what could you win?
The Prize is with a truly magnificient Photographer and someone that we at Ice the Cake have immense admiration for - Emma Lucy Wedding Photography.  Her work is romantic with a retro twist and captures the most beautiful stories rather than individual shots.  Shooting on location in Brighton could see the winners eating candy floss on the pier, screaming on a roller coaster or just relaxing on the stoney beach, but whichever vibe they chose for their shoot, the winners are sure to have fun and come away with beautiful pictures that will be the ultimate keepsake from their wedding prepartions.

Also included in the prize, Joyce Connor from Brides & Beauty will also be on hand to make you feel a million dollars with her breathtaking make-up artistry skills.

How Can I Enter?
It's simple, just click here and fill in the form, letting us know in 100 words or less why you and your FiancĂ© deserve to win.  Good Luck!

Here are some of our favourite pictures from Emma's work.  For more inspiring photographs visit her blog.

Introducing... The Wedding Reporter!

The Wedding Reporter is a new bespoke wedding service offering discerning brides and grooms the opportunity to have a literary legacy of their wedding as an additional keepsake of their memories.

So who is 'The Wedding Reporter'?...
Launched in March 2011 by Emma Woodhouse, The Wedding Reporter evolved from a combined love of writing and a passion for all things matrimonial. After an unprecedented wave of support from the online wedding community about the initial concept, it appeared that the market was ready for someone to go to the wedding frontline and put pen to paper.  In a world now saturated with images, a wedding report offers the chance to stepback from the aesthetic of your wedding day and focus on the action, the atmosphere and the moments you might otherwise forget in due course. A wedding report is an extra layer of texture to the memories of a wedding day.  With a background in fiction and playwriting and training under the National Council for the Training of Journalists, Emma brings a unique style of writing to the transcription of your wedding.

How do you capture the day?
After an initial consultation, The Wedding Reporter will attend whichever elements of the day that the couple chooses for up to 12 hours of coverage. Having absorbed the day firsthand, The Wedding Reporter will then submit the first draft of the report for approval. Following any amendments, the clients will then have full ownership over the final electronic report. They can choose to have the report published in a bespoke booklet professionally created by Golden Apple Designs.

What is your top tip for a stress free wedding?
Keep your eye on the prize. On the night of my wedding, I went to bed with an aching face from smiling so much and a sore tummy from laughing so hard all day long. No one ever tells you that your wedding is THE most fun day, ever. You can't even imagine it. If I had known that I was going to, quite literally, have the time of my life, I wouldn't have stressed over missing RSVPs or cufflinks or the specific shade of a petal or anything else in the run up.

Who inspires you?
I'm actually inspired by many of my peers within the wedding industry who all work their sassy little bums off to run independent businesses that they are passionate about. Creatively I'm inspired by all sorts of random people, from James Frey to Grace Coddington, Richard O'Brien to Emily Bronte and a whole cast of weird and wonderful people inbetween. Sycophantically, I'm inspired by my husband and mum who both have ridiculous levels of faith in me and think I can achieve anything that I set my mind to.

What is your greatest achievement?
I'm not sure I've made it yet! But leaving a full time job to become a penniless writer and not drowning in the pressure feels pretty momentous.

If you weren’t doing this job what do you think you would be doing?
Conserving Britain's heritage thanks to my love of romantic ruins and crumbly old buildings.

How do you spend your time when you are not working?
I try really hard to read as I think every good writer has to be a prolific reader, but I also feel obliged to spend time with the man that I married and as reading isn't really a team sport, we spend our time watching movies and occasionally indulge our love of a great meal at someplace fancy (so long as he's paying...).
